Lamborghini Teases Murciélago's Replacement

Published on January 27, 2011 in New Models by Dan Fritter

There’s little that’s known about the upcoming replacement for Lamborghini’s fire-breathing, V12-powered Murciélago line of supercars. And perhaps that’s fitting, since the brand’s various vehicles look to have more in common with the products of so many military contractors than they do with their automotive brethren.

But this image has just been released of what Lamborghini is calling Project 834; a car many journalists are already calling the Aventador (a name that Lamborghini recently trademarked). Depicting the always lust-worthy intakes of an unknown V12, the picture’s most interesting aspect is the all-new pushrod suspension system. Apparently marking the first time such a system has been used on a production car, the suspension relies upon a series of fulcrums to redirect suspension movement in the horizontal axis, allowing engineers to mount the dampers and springs centrally for better weight control and increased suspension performance.

Hopefully a telling detail, it will undoubtedly be interesting to see what other advancements Lamborghini makes to a car destined to replace what is an already legendary machine.
