2012 Hyundai Genesis Gets New 5.0L V8

It seems like only yesterday when Hyundai announced their first foray into the luxury car market with the Genesis sedan, but the reality is that it’s been nearly four years since that interesting car’s debut.

However, Hyundai isn’t content to rest on its laurels, and has treated the Genesis to a pretty thorough mid-cycle refresh that includes an all new model, and an all new engine. Called the R-Spec, this new Genesis promises to bring a newfound level of performance to the brand via the adoption of the 5.0L V8 engine slated for use in the larger Equus. Producing 429 horsepower and 376 pound feet of torque, the high-tech mill drives through an equally new eight speed transmission developed entirely in house. Add in the more aggressive suspension tuning and 19” wheels and it should provide buyers with a more economical counterpoint to the successful mid-size luxury sedans from Japan.
