Dodge Debuts 2012 Charger SRT8

If the last SRT8 had one thing going against it, it’s that it wasn’t very special looking. Sure, the lower valance and hood scoop gave those in the know an indicator of what lay under the hood, but for the general passerby, it wasn’t much to go on.

That’s certainly not the case with the new one, though. Debuting at the Chicago auto show, the 2012 Charger SR8 is nothing if not unmistakable. From the large, blacked-out schnozz to the familiar rear wing, the new one trades mild for wild in every sense of the word… and that includes under the hood. Although the old 6.1L Hemi was no slouch, the new 6.4-litre unit will prove easily capable of leaving the old model for dead in the wake of its 465 horsepower and foot pounds of torque. Catapulting the big sedan to a top speed of 175 miles per hour and traversing the quarter mile in a scant 12 seconds, it will definitely be one to look for in the coming year.
