Mini Rocketman Concept : Return of a small Mini

Published on March 6, 2011 in Geneva by Gilles Olivier

High management at the Mini automobile brand have a habit of presenting concept vehicles which generally become standard models, in the following two years.

The Rocketman concept is only the official confirmation of a rumour which says that work is presently done on the design and realization of a small city vehicle that can compete with such vehicles as the Smart Fortwo, the Toyota iQ and other small city vehicles to come.

An original concept

The Mini Rocketman Concept is 3 419 mm (134.6 in) in length, only 50 millimetres more than the Mini model from the ‘60s.

Aesthetically, this small size Mini will be a pleasant surprise to many.

This concept is unique with its sliding doors toward the front, its two section hatchback and its sliding floor toward the rear.

The 3+1 configuration of seats, absent on the Toyota iQ, can accommodate three passengers, even four on a short distance. This additional space can also be used for storage or extra cargo.

In all likelihood, it is possible that this small concept vehicle will host the new three cylinder engine developed in a joint effort by BMW and Peugeot.

The Rocketman concept vehicle should normally father a mass produced model as soon as 2013.
