Mercedes Debuts All-New SLK!

Published on March 26, 2011 in New Models by Dan Fritter

For a long time, the Mercedes SLK has been a complete and utter lost cause. Lost amongst a plethora of like-minded import sports cars ranging from the BMW 1-series cabriolet and Z4 to the popular Audi TT, the girliest of Mercedes Benz’ products is in serious need of a redesign.

And Mercedes has done exactly that. All new for the upcoming year, the new SLK’s styling is an obvious nod towards the existing SL series of vehicles with a serious dose of SLS AMG mixed in; itself a somewhat controversial looking vehicle. However, that’s not to say it doesn’t continue with the trend of convertible innovation that the first folding-hardtop SLK did. Now equipped with a fancy new glass roof that automatically tints, the new SLK should enjoy a renewed lease on life courtesy of a new platform and powertrain options list that includes the now-familiar 302-horsepower 3.5 litre V6, old 5.5 litre naturally aspirated V8 (for the AMG), and a nifty little 1.8 litre turbocharged four pot packing 201 horsepower.
