Current M3 to be Last Without Turbochargers

When the current-generation M3 bows out in the very near future, the world will have seen the last naturally aspirated M-division vehicle from BMW. Citing concerns over fuel economy and emissions, the Bavarian brand’s in-house tuning branch has already converted the rest of the M lineup to turbochargers, and is reaping the EPA-certified rewards: thanks to the start-stop technology and twin turbos strapped to the next-generation M5’s engine, that car has realized a whopping 25% increase in fuel economy. However, for many, the addition of forced induction will undoubtedly detract from the M division’s typically sublime engine lineup, and there’s no doubt that the M3’s hard-edged V8 will be one hard act to follow.
