Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe: As expected

Published on April 17, 2011 in New York by Gilles Olivier

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class has undergone a facelift. Among other things, its new looks include the front grille from the charming SLS AMG and the dashboard from the new E-Class.

Very recently at the Geneva Auto Show, the manufacturer unveiled a new coupe trim level in its C-Class line that is much more stylish than was the previous generation. And next thing you know, they’re advertising the unquestionable C63 AMG version of this lovely coupe.

The C63 AMG Coupe

As you might expect, this high performance version features a much more aggressive style that distinguishes it from the other versions in this highly-brow line.
Inside, there are more supportive, firmer, two-colour sport seats and a redesigned dashboard that looks a lot like the one on the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Aluminum accents here and there round out the interior.

Loyal to the V8 engine

At Mercedes-Benz, an AMG is characterized by its engine and improved suspensions, and the C63 AMG coupe is no exception. Like other C-Class models bearing the AMG insignia, this new coupe also features the dominating V8 whose capacity climbs from 6.2 to 6.3 litres while delivering 451 horsepower and 443 lbs-ft of torque. All of this is paired with a seven-speed SpeedShift automatic transmission.

As for performance, the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe goes from 0 to 100 km in a paltry 4.5 seconds and has an electronically blocked top speed of 250 km/hr. The “AMG Performance Package,” which boosts horsepower to 480 with the same 443 lbs-ft of torque, is available on option.

Whichever engine you choose, this new high performance coupe’s geometry won’t disappoint. Thus, the suspensions – a three-link in front and a multi-link in back – are firmer. Of course, the steering is more faithful to the driver’s movements, while the perforated disc brakes’ job is to stop this high-output coupe confidently and safely.

This coupe is expected to make its world premiere next month at the New York Auto Show. It will be available for sale beginning in July.
