Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster: World Premiere in New York or Frankfurt

Word on the street is that Mercedes-Benz will capitalize on the New York Auto Show to unveil two brand-new vehicles. The first will be the roadster version of the SLS AMG coupe and the second will be a concept vehicle. If that doesn’t come to pass, it’s probably safe to assume that the convertible version of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG will be officially unveiled this September at the Frankfurt International Auto Show.

This charming coup with Gullwing doors is replacing the devastating Mercedes-Benz SLR that was offered in both a coupe and a retractable hardtop roadster, so it’s only natural that this exciting coupe would eventually be offered in a roadster version too.

Soft top

Unlike its predecessor, which featured a retractable hardtop, the SLS AMG roadster will be available with an electrically operated soft top. The roadster will keep the same aluminum structure used for the coupe, so it will be quite light for a car of this size.

Under the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG convertible’s long hood, there’s the same powerful 6.2-litre V8 engine that produces 571 horses (European).

A brand new twin-clutch transmission, possibly a seven-speed, will team up with this drivetrain.
