Chrysler Unveils 2012 300 SRT8

Published on April 20, 2011 in New York by Dan Fritter

Given the trend towards the dramatic that seems to have started when the 300C was released year ago, it should come as no surprise then that the 2012 Chrysler 300 will pair the recent redesign (evident on all 2011 models) with a very dramatic model designation: SRT8.

A much-loved muscle sedan of pretty decent proportions, the 2012 model is much of the same; a big car with a big attitude and a motor to match. Gone is the 6.1L Hemi of years past, replaced by an even more potent 6.4L mill churning out 465 horsepower and just as much torque. Representing an improvement of 40 horsepower and 45 foot-pounds of torque, the new engine should propel the big saloon to 60 miles per hour in the “high four second range.” Although sadly still continuing the utilize the same five speed manual gearbox, the new SRT8 should garner as much, if not more, interest than the previous models thanks to substantial increases in styling, refinement, and performance.
