Mercedes Modifying E-Class Offerings?

Once upon a time, you could count on German car lineups to remain stalwartly the same, year after year. Now, though, it seems like models come and go with each passing breeze… like they have been at Mercedes.

According to reports from a leaked dealership order document, it would appear that North American buyers will once again be able to order their E-class station wagon with an extra helping of speed thanks to the return of the AMG model to the lineup. Powered by the same twin-turbocharged 5.5 litre V8 as the “standard” AMG E63, it should make for an interesting counterpoint to the current station wagon king; the CTS-V wagon.

In a slightly less exciting move, Mercedes also appears to have followed in BMWs footprints by bringing their trademark 4Matic all-wheel drive system to a wider array of vehicles, the latest of which is the E550. Motivated by an all new 4.6 litre, twin-turbo V8, the once-rear-wheel-drive sedan borrows heavily from the new CL550, which uses the same powertrain.
