BMW Bringing New 3-Series by Spring

Published on June 4, 2011 in News by Dan Fritter

If you haven’t noticed, the current BMW 3-Series is getting a little long in the tooth. Although still a very competitive sports sedan and perhaps still the benchmark of the segment, there is no denying that the competition has been using the past few years to close the gap. And this is precisely why BMW is going to kill off the BMW 3-series, as we know it, in October of this year.

Looking to next spring for a replacement, enthusiasts can expect a slightly more aggressively styled car that’s more in tune with the current design language, with a more prominent fascia and slightly less flowing silhouette. But perhaps most interesting is the rumoured spate of engines slated for installation beneath the new hood. While the turbocharged six will most assuredly remain, hints have been dropped about the possibility of a new turbocharged four cylinder to increase the line’s fuel economy figures, with rumours of a turbocharged three cylinder even being bandied about for launch in a couple of years.
