Porsche Dishes on New 7 Speed Manual

Published on September 10, 2011 in News by Dan Fritter

Although the majority of Porsche's may be leaving the factory with the manu-matic PDK gearbox installed, there's still a very strong market for cars with a third pedal. They're called purists, and out of all the sports car manufacturers, none may understand that particular market better than Porsche. They have, after all, spent the past few decades improving upon the worst possible sports car layout to satisfy their purist market.

But how will purists respond to this: the new Porsche 7-speed manual gearbox? However, before the purist feathers start ruffling, perhaps a pertinent detail should be mentioned: with six forward gears placed just as they would be normally, and a seventh extreme overdrive, the actual driving experience will be completely unchanged, albeit accompanied by a slightly lower fuel bill. And if it helps Porsche keep a manual gearbox in the lineup, then all the better!
