BMW Offering Horsepower Upgrade to Existing Owners

If you have a BMW 135i, 335i, or a similarly-powered X6 produced before April of 2010, BMW would like to invite you down to your local dealer for a mild tune up... a mild tune up that will add 20 horsepower somewhere between 17 and 32 pound-feet of torque (depending on the transmission; manual and DCT gearboxes receiving the 17 foot pound improvement while automatics get the 32 foot pound improvement) and a "exhaust burble" effect on the overrun.

A measure designed to bring previous 3.0L, turbocharged six-cylinder BMWs up to 2011 standards, the upgrade costs US customers just shy of $600, while more well-heeled Bimmer owners can opt for the $1,200 Version 2 upgrade kit. Including an auxiliary water cooler and a better fan than stock (to control the increased underhood temperatures), the larger kit doesn't come with any higher output than the Version 1 kit, but will undoubtedly help the engine live a little longer under a heavy right foot.
