Maybach to Die in 2013

Published on November 27, 2011 in News by Dan Fritter

If recent reports out of Germany are to be believed, it would appear that Mercedes Benz is preparing to bring the axe down on its languishing Maybach brand sometime in 2013. Having been introduced in the middle of the relative boom of 2002, the brand has been a dismal failure ever since and has little success converting would-be Bentley and Rolls Royce owners over to the Maybach fold. Be it due to the storied (but little-known) name, or perhaps their uncanny resemblance to the comparatively cheap S-class, Maybach ended up becoming the unfortunate fodder of various pop culture icons and rap icons; a far cry from their desired target market. However, not content to leave the uber-rich target market entirely, Mercedes has committed to replacing the Maybach line with a new S600 Pullman model that should be better equipped to leverage the Mercedes name against its English competition.
