BMW Cancels M-Division Supercar; Almost Ruins Christmas
With Audi's Quattro division having quite a bit of say in the production of the wildly successful R8, and Mercedes' AMG division single-handedly crafting the imposing SLS AMG, you can excuse BMW's M group for wanting to get in on the action. And with a strong history in the sports car market, and a positively delectable concept car upon which their hopes were pinned, things were certainly looking up.
But there's a reason that statement comes in the form of the past tense. According to recent reports, BMW has told their M-division that they simply don't feel the need to produce a high-end, M-from-the-ground-up sports car along the lines of the SLS AMG. With a new M5 already out there and an M6 on the way, BMW feels that they already build supercars, albeit ones that possess an extremely high level of performance that's on par with their practicality. In any case, for those that were fans, watching the M1 Homage concept ride off into the sunset will undoubtedly be a sad affair.
