Subaru BRZ: Hello Montreal!

Published on January 13, 2012 in Montreal by Gilles Olivier

Following the concept cars displayed at the Frankfurt and LA auto shows, and the production model shown in Tokyo, Subaru’s pretty BRZ coupe is coming to pay us a visit at the Montreal International Auto Show.

At Subaru, "BRZ" stands for "Boxer Rear Wheel-Drive and Zenith."

This RWD sport coupe looks quite a bit like the Toyota GT 86 and Scion FR-S, except its nose and rear section, which are all its own.

A compact sport coupe

Length: 4,200 mm
Wheelbase: 2,570 mm
Width: 1,770 mm
Height: 1,270 mm

It weighs in at just 1,219 kg.

New Boxer engine

Under the hood of Subaru’s sport coupe is an all-new turbocharged 2.0L flat-4 that produces 200 hp and 151 lbs.-ft. of torque. Its direct and port fuel injection system was designed by Toyota engineers.

This engine is not unlike what we saw in the 2012 Subaru Impreza – a so-called entry-level vehicle – except that it’s turbocharged.

Production of the Subaru sport coupe is expected to start in spring of 2012. It should hit dealerships by summer.
