Detroit Police Ban Curbside Parking to Prevent Car Thefts

Published on February 2, 2012 in News by Dan Fritter

Although those of us that don't live there may see Detroit at a hellish pit of violent crime and uninhabited slums it might as a surprise to learn that there actually are areas of the city that are not dissimilar from many Canadian cities. However, there's also no denying that Detroit's criminal element is substantial, and it would now appear that they're winning.

After a recent rash of auto thefts and thefts from parked cars, the Detroit police have banned curbside parking. Although only enacted within a small area of downtown Detroit, the move is a pretty harsh way to deal with the spike in crime, and will be accompanied by an increased police presence in the area. The most ironic part? All this happened during the Detroit auto show.
