Maserati Eyeing Up Mid-Size Sedan Segment
It's hard not to notice that, over the past few years, Maserati's star has appeared to be on a meteoric rise. Growing out of relative obscurity in the 90s, their recent Quattroporte and Gran Turismo offerings have proven how rapidly strong design can change a company's fortunes.
But, they're not content with just two distinct platforms, and have made no effort to hide their intentions to move into the SUV market with what may be the most luxurious SUV ever created. However, what's slightly more surprising is their decision to migrate their existing sedan, the Quattroporte, into the next size bracket up, while simultaneously planning a smaller-than-the-current Quattroporte sedan to compete with the best from Germany and England. Having trademarked the name Levante, the proposed car would bring Maserati ownership down a few rungs on the economic ladder, and may even be made available with a diesel engine! Let's just hope it doesn't follow in the footsteps of the last small Maserati sedan...
