New Toyota Avalon borrows cues from Jaguar XJ?!

Published on March 30, 2012 in New Models by Dan Fritter

Toyota's largest sedan, the Avalon, has for years been an utterly dismal product. Big, lethargic, and dated, to say it's struggled in a relatively competitive marketplace would be to do it a favour... it's put up about as much of a fight as the Dodo bird.

But, as the car buying market ages, Toyota has come to the realization that they needed to revamp their largest sedan offering, and will be debuting the culmination of their work at the New York Auto Show. However, to keep tongues wagging about the new car's debut, they've released this teaser sketch to hint at the Avalon's apparently new direction. Having already been shown to dealers, the general consensus appears to be that the new car will replace its traditional three-box layout with a coupe-shaped sedan layout akin to the CLS, and A7, and has been described as somewhat similar to the A7 or new Jaguar XJ.
