2013 RVRs for Canada will be U.S.-made

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) today announced the start of production of the RVR compact crossover (Outlander Sport in the United States) at Mitsubishi Motors North America’s plant in Normal, Illinois.

Until recently, the Illinois plant had produced models designed specifically for the North American market, such as the Galant, Eclipse, Eclipse Spyder, and the Endeavor. From now on the plant will produce the RVR for Canada, Outlander Sport for the United States and equivalent models for export to Russia, Central and South America, and the Middle East.

Planned production capacity at the Illinois plant is about 50,000 units, and MMC is considering expanding it to 70,000 units in the future.

RVR was the best-selling vehicle for Mitsubishi Motors of Canada in June with 821 deliveries in a record month that saw 2,089 total sales.
