Rick Hendrick Pays $1.05 Million For First 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray
The first 'production' edition of the all-new 2013 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has reached private hands, but at a price far higher than what one can expect to shell out when it reaches dealerships later this year. Rick Hendrick of Hendrick Motorsports fame paid $1.05 million USD for the privilege of owning VIN 0001 this past weekend by winning the auction for the car in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Hendrick's bid, make through the Barrett-Jackson auction organization, will go entirely to the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, which has long been associated with the automotive industry. Hendrick, in addition to his NASCAR racing concerns, is also an automobile sales baron, controlling a group of dealers that sees annual revenues greater than $6 billion USD.
A number of other Chevrolets - including two more Corvettes (a 2013 and a 1958 model) were also auctioned for charity this past weekend, with Hendrick having additionally purchased the latter. The 1958 Corvette was being sold by G.M. CEO Dan Akerson.
