Toyota Recalls Over 1 Million Vehicles
Toyota is facing down another massive vehicle safety recall in which over 750,000 versions of the 2003 and 2004 Toyota Corolla have been found to suffer from a defect in their airbag safety systems. Concerned that airbags - a crucial component of crash safety - would not actually deploy in a collision, Toyota is calling these compact sedans back to dealerships for repairs. The Toyota Matrix, which is based on the Corolla platform, is also implicated in the recall.
A separate Toyota recall affects Lexus IS sedans built between 2006 and 2012, and concerns a loose nut in their windshield wiper assembly. Over time, it is possible that this nut could prevent the wipers from activating properly, potentially obscuring visibility during rainy or snowy weather. 385,000 IS sedans in total are affected by the safety bulletin, which drives the total number of cars recalled by Toyota in the past week up past the 1 million mark. Over 157,000 of the affected Toyota automobiles are found in Canada.
