Mercedes-Benz Introduces the SLS Electric Drive and Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept

Mercedes-Benz lifted the veil off the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive for the first time in North America at the Miami Boat Show. This model made its international debut earlier this year at the Paris Motor Show.

AMG and high-performance boat maker Cigarette Racing also revealed their latest 100% electric creation: the Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept. This is not the first time that these two powerhouses have collaborated.

In contrast with the electric blue SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive we saw at the initial launch in Paris, the vehicle brought to Miami was a vibrant, eye-catching yellow. This vehicle houses four electric motors that can reach a maximum of 13,000 rpm. Their combined output is an astronomical 740 horsepower and 727 lb.-ft. of torque. Plus, this is the only SLS to come with all-wheel drive. It can race from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.

AMG Electric Drive 38’ Top Gun

The boat, the AMG Electric Drive 38’ Top Gun, features a drivetrain entirely developed by AMG engineers – as well as a lot of the SLS’s hardware. The vessel measures 38 feet in length and is powered by 12 electric motors (six per drive) that produce a total of 1,656 kW (2,220 hp) and 2,213 lb.-ft. of torque. This makes it the most powerful electric boat in the world.

According to AMG, the lithium-ion batteries take a little less than 10 hours to charge using a 220-volt outlet, which are common at marinas. With regard to the boat’s range, the company states it can run 15 minutes at low speed, half an hour at cruising speed (70 mph), sprint to 100 mph a few times, then come back for another 15 minutes at low speed.
