BMW To Introduce New Turbodiesel 3 Series In New York

BMW 3 Series fans will be cheered to know that a fresh turbodiesel version of the popular entry-level luxury sedan will be unveiled in just a couple of weeks time at the New York International Auto Show.  The vehicle represents the first diesel-powered 3 Series to be found wearing the freshly re-designed looks of the current model.

The BMW 328d will trade in the previous-generation turbodiesel sedan's six-cylinder mill for a four-cylinder motor.  The unit is rated at 180 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, which is a considerable step down from the 265 horses and 425 lb-ft of twist that were available from the 335d.  BMW is more interested in pursuing efficiency than pure performance with the new turbodiesel model, however, which means an expected EPA highway rating of at least 40-mpg (5.8 l/100 km).  In this area, the 328d improves on the 335d's frugality.

No further details concerning the BMW 328d have been released prior to the vehicle's upcoming launch.
