Volvo To Bring V60 Wagon To New York

Volvo appears poised to bring a wagon back to the North American market.  Although speculation had been rampant that the slick Volvo V40 compact family wagon would make its way across the Atlantic in order to give Volvo dealers additional product to hawk to loyal customers, it now appears as though the 'special' space that has been left empty at Volvo's 2013 New York International Auto Show will in fact be reserved for a larger model.

Specifically, Volvo's announcement that an as-yet-unnamed vehicle will be co-headlining its New York real estate indicates that a gas-only version of its mid-size Volvo V60 will sit beside the diesel hybrid V60 wagon that has already been announced.  Although the diesel hybrid model isn't planned for U.S. sale - the plug-in model is currently being sold in Europe - a standard edition of the wagon is a much safer bet.

Why does it matter?  Volvo withdrew from the North American wagon market just a few short years ago after decades of providing this particular body style to thousands of loyal fans.  The decision was made to instead rely on crossovers to handle interest from family shoppers.  Any Volvo wagon's return is sure to be met with a small, but fanatical built-in audience.
