2014 Chevrolet Camaro: Chevrolet Surprises With Special Edition Muscle Car

Chevrolet surprised attendees at the 2013 New York International Auto Show today with the unveiling of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z28.  The Camaro Z28 is a special edition version of the muscle car that slots in above the SS trim level, and it is designed to appeal to racing fans looking for a lightweight sports coupe.

Stripped of its trunk carpeting, sound insulation, air conditioning, and all but one speaker, the Camaro Z28 tips the scales lighter than the SS.  It also features a 7.0-litre engine that pumps out roughly 500 horsepower, and it is packed with track-ready equipment including heavy-duty engine and brake cooling systems and Recaro sport seats.

In some ways, the Camaro Z28 takes on its cross-town rival the Boss 302, but the latter offers a host of creature comforts that have been erased from the Chevrolet’s list of standard equipment.  This leaves the Z28 essentially unmatched on the muscle car market.
