Third-Generation Cadillac CTS Coupe A Possibility
Although the unveiling of the all-new 2014 Cadillac CTS in New York at last week's International Auto Show was a crowning achievement for the luxury brand, which has successfully reshuffled its entire sedan line-up over the course of the past 12 months, the spectre of what would happen to the coupe and wagon versions of the mid-size car lurked in the background like an unwanted uncle. Although the general attitude from Cadillac leading up to the event was that the sedan would stand on its own for at least the first model year, Edmunds is now reporting that the development of a two-door version of the car could be underway sooner than later.
The optimism lies with the acknowledgement by Cadillac representatives that the current coupe has been very well received by its target audience, and that the possibility for a new iteration of the sleek and sporty model was more than just a rumour. The presence of another body style in the CTS stable would also help the brand chase BMW and Mercedes-Benz in the mid-size sales race, where it trails by roughly 20 percent its nearest rival, the BMW 5 Series.
