2014 Chevrolet Corvette Rated At 455 Horsepower

General Motors has finally released the official horsepower figures for the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, and the news good for fans of the next-generation sports car.  The 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine that motivates the base model C7 Corvette will produce 455 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.

The numbers get just a little bit better when opting for the performance exhaust system that can be had as an option with the car, as it boosts both torque and twist by five.  The engine's peak ponies are generated at 6,000 rpm, but the vast amount of its torque is available as low as 1,000 rpm, which should give the car the explosive acceleration that one expects from such a large displacement engine.  The LT1 engine even compares favourably to the 7.0-liter V8 found under the hood of the previous generation Corvette Z06 when it comes to power density.  Chevrolet expects a 0-100 km/h run of under four seconds for the base Corvette, with fuel economy topping out around 9 l/100 km on the highway.
