Ford Adds Buttons To MyFord Touch
After enduring endless criticism from the automotive press and customers alike, Ford is backing away from the button-less design of its MyFord Touch vehicle interface. The system, which currently consists of a touchscreen and a capacitive touch panel used to access entertainment, climate, navigation, and a communications features, will soon gain additional knobs and actual buttons as redundant controls for important features.
MyFord Touch has been panned since its release, despite an updated version of the software that appeared in the last 12 months across several models that improved on the user experience associated with the system. The company had suffered at the hands of reliability and owner satisfaction surveys during the period, a slide that finally prompted Ford to cave in to consumer demand and add parallel methods for accessing HVAC and stereo controls.
The new version of MyFord Touch is currently available on the recently refreshed Ford F-150 pickup, and it will eventually migrate across the company’s vehicle lineup. Close to 80 percent of Ford automobiles leaving the showroom feature MyFord Touch or its SYNC voice command component.
