2014 Mazda3: Unveiled at Last!

Published on June 26, 2013 in New Models by Gilles Olivier

The Mazda3 is by far the most popular vehicle offered by its Japanese automaker. But since the vehicle was starting to look its age compared to its increasingly fierce competition, it was high time that this car went in for an overhaul.

Today, Mazda held the new vehicle’s world premiere in New York, capitalizing on the company’s annual design forum. The event was broadcast live using Microsoft’s Xbox Live platform.

As expected, the new Mazda3’s design draws on the Kodo philosophy – especially the car’s front section, which borrows the Mazda6 sedan’s style signature.

In terms of size, the new 3 is shorter, wider and lower than the current model.

The 2014 Mazda3 will be available as a sedan or five-door hatchback.

It still has room for five passengers and comes with an all-new and much more elaborate infotainment system.

Skyactiv technology

In North America, the 2014 Mazda3 will come with a choice of two four-cylinder engines from the Skyactiv-G family.

To start, there’s a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 155 horsepower, but then there’s also 2.5-litre engine that pumps 184 horsepower. Both of these engines equip the CX-5 SUV.

There also two six-speed gearboxes, one manual and one automatic.

The 2014 Mazda3 sedan will be revealed at a later date, and two other trims are expected to hit the market this fall.
