iOS 7 to Feature In-Car Integration Likely Using AirPlay

Apple’s iOS 7 is set to be released to the public this fall and new details are emerging about possible vehicle integration capabilities.

Called “iOS in the car”, the new feature was briefly talked about at Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference in July.  It was revealed that iOS 7-equipped devices would be able to display maps, messages, and song information on compatible cars' dashboard screens.

A leaked screenshot from one of the developers testing the beta version is iOS 7 seems to indicate that video will be streamable over the same AirPlay protocol used to stream video to the Apple TV. Video via a USB connection will also be supported as will integration with in-car Wi-Fi adapters.

iOS in the Car compliments the “"Siri Eyes Free" feature, that permits drivers of compatible cars to talk to Siri by pressing a button on the steering wheel. iOS in the Car will use a similar system with the help of Siri.
