Thunderhill Raceway Park Expansion Puts it Among North America's Longest Tracks

Thunderhill Raceway Park in Northern California is undergoing a massive expansion to elongate the track by 1.9 miles (3.1km). After the renovations are complete next year, the total length of 4.8 miles (7.9 km) will put it past the current record holder which is Miller Motorsports Park in Utah.

Originally begun in 2008, the project had to be delayed due to the recession.  Now that things are looking up again, the track has decided to move forward.
In an article posted on the Road & Track website, Thunderhill CEO David Vodden says the idea is a "business model change," explaining that the project has been funded by accumulated reserves of cash over the last decade. "Our customers are like kids in candy stores," said Vodden, referring to the overall excitement surrounding the new project.

Vodden said that they were "courting a Bondurant-type event," when asked if the expansion meant new events would be held at the facility.
