BMW has finally introduced its i8 production model in Frankfurt.

The new model is a very environmentally friendly sports car that embraces many of the cooler aspects form the concept version, namely the gull-wing doors. Also inherited are the sensual lines BMW spent many hours of research developing for aerodynamic purposes.

With its 2 +2 configuration, the car is very light and weighs only 1,490 pounds.

Like the concept, the BMW i8 Series offers a plug-in hybrid powertrain. On one side, there is a three-cylinder 1.5-litre turbo that generates 231 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. For its part, the electric motor boasts 131 hp.

Power accumulated by the gasoline engine is directed to the rear wheels, while that produced by the electric motor is found on the front.

According to the manufacturer, it goes from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.5 seconds. Its combined fuel consumption is 2.48 l/100 km. In all-electric mode, its autonomy is limited to 35 km.
