In North America this compact sport coupe is called the Scion FR-S and shares its mechanics with that of the Subaru BRZ. Outside the North American markets, the sports coupe called the Toyota GT-86.

Turbo or hybrid

Toyota eventually aims to provide a more powerful version of the GT-86 coupe and Scion FR-S.

At first it was considering adding a turbo four-cylinder engine with 2.0-liter flat, which would see its power go from 200 to at least 250 horsepower.

However Toyota's engineers seem to now be considering a hybrid which would be just as powerful and certainly more economical than the turbocharged engine.

An announcement confirming the details should happen in late November at the Tokyo International Motor Show or early 2014.
