Scion FR-S Convertible on Hold

Published on October 7, 2013 in News by Danny Geraghty

Reports surfaced over the weekend citing unnamed Toyota insiders of a possible delay in bringing the Scion FR-S convertible to production.

Last March, the Toyota FT-86 Open Convept (pictured) was unveiled at the Geneva Auto show. The vehicle was also shown off at a dealer meeting, leading many to believe that it was a done deal.

Still, Toyota never actually confirmed production and now the Japanese automaker appears to have pulled the plug indefinitely.

Convertibles need to have their structural rigidity re-enforced to make up for the loss of roof panels. This means added weight and apparently Toyota doesn’t wish to go against the appeal of the FR-S as a lightweight vehicle.
