It's official, BMW will unveil the all-new 4-Series convertible at the Los Angeles Auto Show which will open on November 22.

The convertible BMW Series 4 will be available in three versions: 428i, 435i and 420d; however the diesel engine will not be offered in North America.

The Hardtop

Like the current model, the roof is replaced by a retractable hardtop, which takes just 20 seconds to deploy at a maximum speed of 18 km/h. BMW speaks of better soundproofing once the roof is in place on the new model.

Its generous cargo space is reduced from 370 to 220 litres with the roof down.

Powerplants

It is not surprising that the convertible inherits the engine options of the new 4-Series coupe:
- 245 hp 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder (428i);
- 306 hp 3.0- litre inline six-cylinder (435i);
- 184 hp 2.0-litre diesel four-cylinder.

It is also possible to opt for a convertible xDrive with AWD. Sales will begin in the spring of 2014.

There is already talk of the 428i convertible being offered at a starting price of $49,675, and even $55,825 for the 435i model in the United States .
