Aston Martin Lagonda SUV in the Works

Aston Martin still intends to bring a SUV to market - however the process isn’t moving as quickly as originally envisioned. According to a report by Autocar, there isn’t even a prototype built yet and the vehicle is still on the drawing board. A concept was first debuted in 2009 at the Geneva Motor Show. Aston is partnering with Mercedes-Benz on the project and may even use a power plant offered in the GL class.

Furthermore, it seems Aston Martin will not launch a sub-brand called Lagonda for the new SUV but rather sell it as an Aston Martin with Lagonda being the nameplate.

“If you look at how Porsche and Volkswagen worked together to produce two completely different cars, it would be possible to have a similar arrangement with Mercedes so long as our car was clearly and distinctly an Aston Martin,” Aston CEO Ulrich Bez told the UK publication.

The Lagonda will likely be aimed at the Chinese market first and foremost.
