Lincoln Launches the MKC
Last January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Lincoln presented its MKC compact luxury SUV as a concept. The concept gave us a good idea of what this vehicle would look like moving forward.
Today, Ford’s luxury brand unveiled the production version of the compact luxury SUV. This is the first vehicle in its class to be marketed by Lincoln.
The compact luxury SUV is category that has seen high growth in Canadian sales, increasing by nearly 14% since 2012 and over 130 % since 2009. This market is dominated by German manufacturers with their Audi Q5, BMW X1/X3 and Mercedes -Benz GLK.
The concept became the production model
Aesthetically, the Lincoln MKC displays a very elegant and refined shape which is basically what we saw in the concept.
Inside, the finish and presentation of the MKC are that of a true luxury vehicle with French leather as well as real wood. For its part, the dashboard has a gear selector push button, creating a very nice living space inside.
True to the philosophy of Ford, the MKC was granted the SYNC ® system with MyLincoln Touch ™, combined with a standard 8-inch touch screen. The THX ® II certified audio system, a first in the industry, includes no fewer than 14 speakers.
Two engines
The standard motor is a four-cylinder EcoBoost turbocharged engine which delivers an output of 240 horsepower and 270 lb –ft of torque.
For an additional fee, there is a 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost that generates 275 horsepower and 300 lb -ft of torque. All-wheel drive is standard.
Production of the Lincoln MKC is set to begin in the second quarter of 2014 at the Louisville, Kentucky plant. Vehicles will be available as of summer 2014. We'll have a first look at the vehicle in person during next week's Los Angeles Auto Show.
