Ford has announced two more recalls affecting the 2013 Escape, making a total of seven for the most popular compact SUV in North America.

This time, the recall affects more than 161,334 Escapes worldwide, including 139,228 registered in the U.S. and 18,917 in Canada.

Recall # 1

This is by far the most serious one and it affects Ford Escapes with the four-cylinder 1.6-litre EcoBoost motor manufactured between 2011 and 2013.

It was found that the head of the engine may overheat and cause cracks of which would result in oil leaks which can cause a fire. According to a spokesman for Ford there have been 13 reported fires caused by this defect. Fortunately, nobody has been injured in these incidents.

Recall # 2

This particular recall affects the 2013 Ford Escape with the 1.6-litre engine already previously recalled for the same issue but the original problem persists.

It was then detected that a faulty fuel pipe could result in a gas leak in the engine compartment and this could start a fire.
