Mini Cooper Diesel for North America
Pat McKenna, the executive in charge of all Mini products, recently announced in an interview with AutoGuide.com that the brand would offer a diesel-powered MINI for the North American market.
The engine is a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbodiesel, generating 114 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque.
It’s a car that will only use about 3.5 L/100 km for a substantial savings in gasoline costs.
McKenna also discussed the possibility of developing a rechargeable plug-in hybrid drivetrain for the Mini but nothing concrete has been announced on that front.
