This visually appealing vehicle compact SUV was the first to be conceived and engineered at Hyundai’s design centre in Frankfurt, Germany. First introduced as a 2005 model, the current design is the result of the refresh for the 2010 model year which was so popular, sales doubled.

New features for 2014 include projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, optional LED taillights and new alloy wheels for both the base 17-inch and optional 18-inch sets. The motor options are still 2.0 and 2.4-litre four-cylinders but they now have direct injection. Also new for 2014 is the lack of a manual transmission.

Fuel economy for the smaller engine is bumped up slightly but remains essentially unchanged on the larger one.

This would be the fifth year of the current design so we expect there to be a refresh soon. The Tucson has aged very well so it could be Hyundai might squeeze a few more years out of it yet.

The 2014 Hyundai Tucson starts at $21,499 before freight and PDI.
