GM Sells 1800 Cars Online With “Shop-Click-Drive”

On November 6, 2013, General Motors launched an online tool to buy vehicles. To date, GM says made over 1800 sales through the system.

The tool, called “shop-click-drive” allows potential buyers to get all the info require to purchase their next vehicle, estimate the pricing, choose financing terms and even get their trade-in appraised. After a credit application, the vehicle can be scheduled for delivery.

For people who find car shopping a stressful, non-enjoyable exercise, this might be the tool for them. It bypasses the dealership experience and having to deal with salespeople.

GM is allowing dealerships to opt-in and over 4,300 dealers (around 1/3) in the U.S. are now participating in the program. In October only about 100 dealers in eight states were using the tool.

The tool is unavailable for Canadian buyers and there is no word yet on when General Motors plans to bring the tool here.
