Aston Martin Proceeds With Massive Recall

The prestigious British brand is performing a massive recall of three-quarters of all models produced since 2007.

In total, 17,590 cars are affected, representing 75% of units assembled at the Gaydon factory. In Canada, 576 Aston Martin are part of the affected vehicles.

Aston Martin DB9, DBS, Rapide, Rapide S, Virage, Virage S, V8 Vantage and V12 Vantage cars are covered by this notice, which affects cars that are both left and right-hand drive.

The problem involves “counterfeit plastic material” in the accelerator pedal mechanism which could break causing a lack of acceleration control. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration describes it as follows: “If the accelerator pedal arm breaks, the engine will return to idle and the driver will be unable to maintain or increase engine speed, increasing the risk of a crash.”

Dealers will have to replace the accelerator and redesign the floor surface.

To date, no accidents or injuries have been attributed to the problem.
