GM says it will pay particular attention to high-speed wireless technology this year as it intends to incorporate fourth generation LTE into some 2015 vehicles, according to GM North America president Alan Batey.

Generally new model-year vehicles begin to arrive in the summer months and their systems will bear a striking resemblance to smartphone functionality.

"We are very, very excited about that, and we think it will be a huge improvement for all of our brands.  We think it is a big step forward. We really wanted to be a leader at this level," said Mr Batey.

The first GM vehicles equipped with LTE fourth gen tech will be most 2015 Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac models in the United States and Canada. The service will be available via AT&T and its Canadian partners. WIFI should also be included in the vehicles for multiple device connectivity.

Analyst Dennis DesRosiers notes GM has pioneered this type of advancement.

"In this world, it is difficult to remain far ahead, but I would say they are quite ahead of everyone else," he said.
