Hyundai PassoCorto IED Concept: Reminiscent of the Alfa Romeo 4C

Each year at the Geneva Motor Show the Turin-based Instituto Europeo di Design (IED) presents some work done by their students. This year the main project has been designed in collaboration with South Korean manufacturer Hyundai.

It is named the PassoCorto FDI Concept. The project was headed by Luca Borgogno, head of design at the famous Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina.

Students were tasked to develop a concept representing young "Generation Y”, which cannot live without their smart phones and other such gadgetry.

This is a study of a compact sports coupe, which some say is very similar to the attractive Alfa Romeo 4C two-seater.

The aim is to ensure that the model can make used of a monocoque carbon fiber chassis, which can be both rigid and lightweight. The weight cannot exceed 840 pounds.

In the cockpit there is a central panel incorporating the main controls. The mirrors have been replaced by a panoramic camera. In addition, it will be possible to record video in high resolution, which can later be viewed on the web.

On the mechanical side we have a center-rear positioned four-cylinder biturbo engine making around 270 horsepower.
