A Diesel Ford Focus ST in the Making?

In Europe, the Hot Hatch segment is more than popular. Each carmaker has to sell one, and those who come up with a new idea are assured to reap big benefits.

20 years ago, the VW GTD was launched in Europe. Combining the sporty chassis of the GTi with an economic yet full of torque turbodiesel engine, those cars met with a lot of success with customers over there, and we may have a chance to taste the forbidden fruit soon (fingers crossed!).

During a Dinner in Geneva, Mark Fields, Chief Operating Officer at Ford, has declared that he wants to expand the Focus ST lineup to offer a diesel engine soon. Using the 2.0 liter TDCi engine already used in Europe, the new version would make at least 182 horsepower, and run down the 0-100 in 8 seconds, which is .5 more than the VW GTD.

There are no release dates yet (there have also not been any official press release), but with the success of the GTD over the years, it would only be logical for Ford to want a part of that market. There are no official names either, but let’s hope we don’t end up with the Focus STD!
