2014 Best Buys: Convertibles and Roadsters between $50,000 and $100,000
Interesting fact: As prices for a vehicle category go up, so does the number of models in the category! There are no fewer than 18 models among the convertibles (4 to 5 seats) and roadsters (2 seats) between $50,000 and $100,000! Once you cross the $100,000 mark, you officially fall into the GT/Sport Performance category.
But let’s go back to our group of convertibles and roadsters, which is dominated by the queen of queens, the 2014 Porsche Boxster. This is one of those cases where there is a clear-cut winner. We could fill pages upon pages trying to describe this Porsche, but you really have to drive it to know what it’s like. If ever a museum decides to showcase automotive works of art, the Boxster is sure to be included in the exhibit.
Next in line is the 2014 Jaguar F-Type, so beautiful that it could make a silent monk exclaim in delight. And then there’s the V8 version! The F-Type is essentially a 21st century E-Type. The coupe is slated to be released for the 2015 model-year. The F-Type secured second place based on everything that it represents—and especially the fun ride it offers.
The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray remains THE American icon, regardless of category. This technically innovative machine can hold its own against some much more expensive models.
Other contenders in this category include the 2014 Audi A5 and TT, 2014 BMW 3 Series (4 Series next year), 2014 Z4, 2014 Chevrolet Camaro, 2014 Infiniti Q50, 2014 Jaguar XK, 2014 Lexus IS, 2014 Mercedes-Benz SL Class, SLK and SLS AMG, and Shelby GT500. That’s one impressive line up!
