Chevrolet Aveos May Burst Into Flames

While they were simple, honest means of cheap transportation from A to B, the Chevrolet Aveo, Suzuki Swift and Pontiac G3/Wave were never considered hot. However, GM’s latest recall may change that.

The American manufacturer just announced that the Chevrolet Aveo, Suzuki Swift and Pontiac G3/Wave built between 2004 and 2008 may be equipped with a faulty Daytime-Running Lamps module, which may overheat in some conditions. In some cases, it may even melt and potentially catch fire, which is a safety concern since this module is located in the dashboard. About 220,000 vehicles are included in this recall.

GM did not announce a recall timetable, since they are still working on a replacement part that won’t burn to a crisp. Since the daytime-running lamps are automatic, you can’t just shut them down to prevent them from overheating. Maybe leave a small fire extinguisher in the car, just in case?
