The Deltawing Could Spawn a Road-Legal Car

Published on May 28, 2014 in News by Frédérick Boucher-Gaulin

Most of us remember the Deltawing, the strange little racecar that shouldn't have worked, but brilliantly did, thanks to its light weight and cutting-edge engineering.

However, its development and evolution were not always simple, from the breakup with Nissan to the crash at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where the Deltawing was sent into the wall by a competitor.

Deltawing Technologies is now thinking about developing a road-going version of its racecar, and is looking for a partner in this endeavor.

On paper, their specs look promising, with about half as much weight as its competitors, and fuel consumption as low as 4L/100 km. According to them, an 85 to 110 HP engine should be enough to sprint from 0 to 100 in 6 seconds.

The company behind the Deltawing drew up this rendering, showcasing what the street-legal car could look like.

They are now looking for a business partner that could handle the engine and production side of the deal. Whoever signs up with them would have a vehicle that can significantly reduce their overall fuel consumption.

We wish them luck, but sincerely hope they make some adjustments to the design…
