Jaguar Land Rover Unveils its Ingenium Engine Family

Published on July 10, 2014 in News by Frédérick Boucher-Gaulin

Up until now, Jaguar and Land Rover have used fairly dated engine platforms. Some of them were in fact based on old Ford designs from the last century. It was more than time for Jaguar Land Rover to upgrade their powertrains.

So it is with great anticipation that we discover the Ingenium engine family that will now be used in pretty much every vehicle from the manufacturer. The featured engine is a 2-litre turbodiesel.

The Ingenium platform will be very adaptable, and can be fitted to a wide range of rear or all-wheel drive vehicles. The basic engine design will be used for both gasoline or diesel applications.

All the Ingenium engines will be direct-injected. They will also make use of variable cam timing and turbochargers, and all be made out of aluminium.

The first engine will be called the AJ200D. While the manufacturer didn't gave us exact specs for it, they have confirmed that it will be one of most powerful and most efficient in its segment.

Jaguar Land Rover has tested this new mill for the equivalent of 8 years of regular driving, and 3.2 million kilometres.
